Introductory Courses to Becoming a Guide

The following programs are each week long opportunities for participants to experience what it takes to become an outdoor adventure guide with Peak 7. The only requirements to participate in these courses is to be 16 years of age or older and complete an interview with the Peak 7 programs team. Those who wish to participate in multiple or all of the programs will only have to interview once.

Intro to Wilderness Medicine

Who is this for? 
Those with interest in learning basic safety skills in the event of injury or sickness while in the back country.
When will this take place? 
June 3rd - 6th
Where will this take place?
 Peak 7 Spokane Warehouse
What is the objective? 
 In this course participants will observe & assist our wilderness medicine instructor during his lectures and demonstrations, play the victim during training scenarios, and have the opportunity to become BLS certified.
Cost: $50

Intro to Becoming a Raft Guide

Who is this for?
Those with interest in whitewater rafting.
When will it be?
June 8th - 12th
Where will it take place? 
 This course will start at the Peak 7 warehouse in Spokane, but the rafting itself will take place on the Deschutes River in Central Oregon.
What is the objective?
This is an introductory skills course focused on boat setup, paddle skills and base camp management for our river trips. You will get to run the Deschutes several times over the course of 4 days, hang with our staff guides and learn how to prepare and cook our meals.
Cost: $200

Intro to Becoming an Ascent Guide

Who is this for? 
Those with interest in mountaineering & backpacking
When will it be? 
 July 20th - 24th
Where will it take place? 
This trip will start in Spokane, but the mountaineering itself will take place on the  Coleman Demming side of Mt Baker.
What is the objective? 
This is an introductory skills course focused on risk management, Leave No Trace principals & basic crevasse rescue and navigation skills. A summit bid will be determined by weather and conditions on the mountain.
Cost: $350

Scholarships

Anyone who would like to participate in these programs but is in need of financial assistance is welcome to apply for scholarship either through Peak 7, or through Kiwanis who provides camp scholarships to those who live in Spokane.
