Seasonal River Manager

The rafting program river manager runs single day whitewater rafting trips on Class II-IV rivers in Washington and Oregon. This position reports to the program coordinator, leading and managing trips that are well organized, on schedule, and in alignment with our safety procedures. This position requires someone with strong interpersonal skills and experience in group management and outdoor leadership.

Job responsibilities include leading and guiding whitewater rafting trips, managing and delegating tasks to the other guides on the team, keeping track of trip paperwork including filling out detailed trip reports for each trip, assisting in training of seasonal staff and volunteers, and leading the team to be positive and welcoming to all participants.

Season Commitment: Full time, April 16, 2021-August 31, 2021 (End date flexible)
Compensation:  $5,000 – $8000 for the season depending on experience.
Can fundraise additional support with the help of Peak 7.

Job Requirements:
  • Commitment to Jesus Christ reflected in your life
  • 21 years of age or older
  • CPR and WFA or WFR, or ability to obtain before start date
  • Swiftwater Rescue Technician or equivalent, or ability to obtain before start date
  • At least 2 seasons (200 river hours min) experience guiding Class III or above in a paddle raft or oar frame craft.
  • Food Handlers Permit
  • Physically fit with the ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs over awkward terrain
  • Doctor’s physical within the last two years

Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in leadership especially in an outdoor or ministry context.
  • Administration skills and experience organizing, coordinating, and managing a schedule
  • Adaptable and flexible with last minute schedule and itinerary changes
  • Hard worker who can self-manage and start projects
  • Respect and understanding for the highly diverse cultures and populations we serve
  • Excellent driver with experience driving large vehicles and backing trailers
  • Ability to delegate tasks and manage people effectively
  • Openness to feedback and ability to accept constructive criticism
  • Ability to lead and effectively motivate team members
